Against a backdrop of further $315/metric tonne global hard coking coal settlements, nobody is likely to shed more than crocodile tears for metallurgical suppliers in the current market environment. Prices are high, and demand is strong. Australian and Canadian suppliers went to Japan this week to negotiate with buyers intent on paying something very close to $300/tonne for hard coking coal. The Australians and Canadians, for their part, were aligned behind the $315/tonne number negotiated between Anglo Coal and ArcelorMittal.
