Late week downturn leaves OTC prices in dumps, producers reeling

After showing some signs of strength over a period of a couple of weeks, the NYMEX barge coal futures market took a deep down turn the last couple of trading days prior to U.S. Coal Review's press time. Recent gains were erased, and while the market didn't quite reach the lows of November, it finished in a weak state. Following five days of trading on the Central Appalachian Coal contract at the New York Mercantile Exchange that culminated in the February 12 session, the March 2009 Eastern barge coal front month number was down 2.08 dollars.
