The Zone map for tree crops which WANATCA has used as part of its membership for close to 30 years has always listed the Marula as one of the potential crops. But it is almost unknown to the general public. In the event, the Marula may be the first native Southern African tree to gain acceptance as a food source outside its home area. A substantial tree, able to thrive in areas with hot, dry seasons, the Marula produces both a fruit and a nut.
