Pharmacy robberies are atan all-time high. Andpharmacists who attemptto defend themselves have beenshot and killed during armedrobberies. It appears that drugaddicts and other criminals haveopted to bypass stealing cash fromliquor stores, gas stations, andbanks in order to pay for streetdrugs in favor of taking theirunlawful behavior directly to thepharmacy to obtain controlledsubstances. Pharmacists areresponding to threats of violencein a variety of ways, includingarming themselves with weaponsas a means of self-defense. Thequestion is whether this strategy isa good one and, more important,whether employers support thenotion of self-defense.
