The Lifelines Interview

I have only ever wanted to work in public service. From the start of my career I knew that I wanted to work in the community to support those who were dealing with poverty and disadvantage. This desire to make a difference was why I became a social worker and influenced my decision to move into healthcare and take my current position at the Care Quality Commission.After qualifying as a social worker, I started work in a children's home in Birmingham in 1981,1 remained in the area and worked in social services throughout the 1980s and early 1990s.
