Car quality improving in the US

The reliability and performance of US cars during the first 90 days of ownership has improved, according to the 2009 JD Power and Associates Initial Quality Study.The study, which is based on responses from almost 90,000 purchasers and lessees, took place between February and May this year with the aim of providing manufacturers with information on how to identify problems and drive improvement. Those surveyed are asked to comment on design-related problems, defects and malfunctions.Overall, the industry average for 2009 was 108 problems per 100 vehicles, compared to 118 in 2008. The initial quality of new vehicles produced by Chrysler, Ford and General Motor's domestic brands have improved an average often per cent from last year.
