Future trends in Personal Care

Because the use and development of personal care products is deeply embedded in human culture since thousands of years,future trends are expected to be a reflection and logical continuation of mainstream(bio)scientific,(bio)technological and regulatory evolutions.In the area of science and technology we expect bioelectronics to become a means of diagnosing,retarding and maybe even repairing biological cosmetic defects.Novel delivery forms such as transdermal patches,oral nutricosmetics and cosmeto-textiles are already entering the market.Meanwhile,under pressure of an increasingly critical consumer or in an attempt to broaden their consumer base,formulators need to be able to develop their promise by better discovery and claim substantiation methodologies.Therefore current "standard" technology will have to adopt better science and especially do this at a faster pace.Oleochemistry will continue to play an important role thanks to its versatility,high biocompatibility and its environmentally friendly image of renewable chemistry.Both high-performance excipients and actives are already accessible through oleochemistry.The industry however must not loose sight of an unknown and costly variable,difficult to control and predict:all present ana future innovations,technological or conceptual,will have to operate within a narrowing regulatory framework.
