With the advent of E-flute in the mid-1970s, microflute packaging was born. Box buyers had been telling their suppliers they wanted smoother printing surfaces and stronger board; using boxboard didn't provide enough package strength. So for more than 40 years, new flute profiles developed to meet a rising demand for packaging performance, contacts said.
