SBS price hike mostly delayed as producers back off sluggish market

A bleached paperboard price hike effective Sept. 1 lacked momentum with success better discerned in coming weeks, according to industry contacts. One major producer was said to be adamant about the broad solid bleached sulfate (SBS) increase, especially on cupstock and foodservice grades, which has been described all summer as stronger than folding carton. Yet other suppliers had quietly backed away from enforcing the $50/ton price hike this month.
