Broad pricing decline continues on high grades, with some OCC holding despite sluggish exports to China

Recovered paper high-grades pricing broadly declined at US mills once again in the last month, while levels dropped in a much more limited and fragmented way on old corrugated containers (OCC) and bulk grades as export demand from China, India, and Mexico stayed sluggish. Levels for pulp substitutes were largely unchanged, after falling $20 the last six months. Helping to hold OCC pricing was reduced generation in some places as well as mill efforts to build additional stock through the holidays, including with a few that warehoused tons, contacts said. Most containerboard mills, however, were already well supplied this week.
