US NBSK market pulp prices gain $20 to $990/tonne on low supply- reduced overhang calms BHK market

Lower supplies in the North American bleached softwood kraft (BSK) pulp market continued this month, buoying producer efforts to drive through a second straight $20/tonne increase on the back of an ongoing demand surge in Asia and uneven rises in US spot markets. Benchmark northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) effective list prices increased to $990/tonne, up $20 to eclipse a two-year high, market participants told PPI Pulp & Paper Week, Southern bleached softwood kraft (SBSK) rose to $950/tonne, also a $20 gain.
