KPS closes in on developing largest specialty papers firm in North America, meshing Wausau,Thilmany, Verso PM

KPS Capital Partners this week moved closer to a unique deal it expects to finalize this summer that combines four specialty paper mills in Wisconsin run by two companies (Packaging Dynamics Thilmany and Wausau Paper) and supply from a third (Verso Paper) in Maine. The combined company would be the largest specialty paper producer in North America — and potentially the world — with more than 600,000 tons/yr of capacity, well in front of Domtar (311,000 tons/yr) and Boise Paper (306,000 tons/yr), according to RISI capacity figures. Other large specialty producers are Longview Fibre and KapStone.
