At least four North American publication paper producers told customers they will apply surcharges to pass on costs from higher oil and natural gas prices,and many more producers are also considering such charges,sources said last week.In some cases,the surcharges are set to begin for this month.Suppliers are adopting a variety of measures to offset the rapid run up in the price they pay for everything from chemicals to transportation as well as energy.Solutions range from a short-term fuel surcharge on transportation to a structural change in the billing process that reflects the higher price of all oil-related materials purchased by a supplier.Charges to customers will range from US5/ton to US20/ton or more.
