Quebecor World reports big loss for 1Q; Office Depot's earnings fall off sharply

Major commercial printers in North America posted positive results in the first quarter compared with the same quarter last year, except bankrupt Quebecor World whose triple-digit loss pulled down the overall Pulp & Paper Week sales and earnings composite. The P&PW survey that included seven major commercial printing companies revealed that combined first quarter earnings at 76 million dropped over 65% or 142 million compared with the previous year's quarter. Excluding Quebecor, quarterly earnings totaled 228 million yet dropped only 2%.
