Pricing differences in play on LA, New York export levels delivered to China

In a twist, buyers for mills in China recently began pushing for lower delivered pricing for US recovered paper out of New York/ New Jersey than from Los Angel es/Long Beach and West Coast ports, traders said since the end of November. Recovered paper from New York/New Jersey ports contains more moisture than from West Coast ports plus the shipping time from New York/New Jersey takes about 12 days longer (about 32 days to Chi- na) than from the West Coast ports (about 20 days to China). Buyers in China, one trader said in late November, were "complaining" and OCC FAS pricing in Los Angeles/Long Beach was running roughly $4-6 more than from New York/New Jersey for old corrugated containers (OCC). Old newspapers (ONP) No. 8 and mixed papers were running $2-3 more.
