Mills set $40 high-bright price increases following UM trend improvement

On the back of improving trends for uncoat-ed papers, several North American paper-makers including Resolute Forest Products, Norpac, and Catalyst announced November price increases on a variety of uncoated mechanical grades in North America. The $40/ton (2.00/cwt) hikes will be effective Nov. 1 on all basis weights and finishes, the companies said. The affected grades range from improved newsprint and commodity high-brights used in advertising sections and inserts to the so-called super-brights that compete with uncoated freesheet (UFS) paper in offset printing applications. The UFS paper increases are set to start in mid-October and are for $60/ton in North America (See story, p. 1).
