Early in September 2011, it was said that AbitibiBowater is considering restarting a paper machine at its shuttered Gatineau, QC, newsprint mill, which can produce 160,000 tonnes/yr on its machine No. 4 and 190,000 tonnes/yr on PM 6. If a new labor agreement being put to the vote is approved, around 100 of the more than 300 workers laid off when the mill closed indefinitely in May last year could return.
