Relationships among quality management, IS use and organizational performance in the health care and non-health care setting

The paper investigates the extent of use of two widely used organizational programs: QM and IS in two organizational environments - the health care and non-health care sectors. The term QM maturity is used to describe the organizations that have adopted QM programs fully. It is argued that QM maturity and IS maturity are related. More QM mature organizations are expected to adopt IS successfully. Health care organizations are lagging behind in QM maturity and also in IS implementation. The research questions (RQ) are: Research question 1: There will be no differences in the health care versus non-health care samples with respect to QM maturity, IS maturity, culture and outcomes. Research question 2: Organizations that are seen by their employees as higher in QM maturity will also be seen as implementing IS more extensively and effectively for both the health care and non-health care samples. Research question 3: Organizations that are described by employees as higher in QM maturity will also be described as having a culture that is aligned with QM (i.e., fostering employee growth and empowerment) for the health care and non-health care samples.
