The British Cement Industry was one of the country's first major energy consumers to reach an agreement with the Government to improve the energy efficiency of its process, and thereby reduce carbon dioxide emissions.The industry's trade body, the British Cement Association (BCA), and its members signed an agreement with the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) committing the industry to cutting emissions by improving energy efficiency by more than a quarter of 1990 levels by 2010.
