In recent years, wireworms have become an increasingly greater threat to potato production in Idaho. Historically, wireworms were managed by using environmentally persistent organochlorine insecticides that were phased out due to environmental and human health risks. As the residual effects of these insecticides faded, wireworms reemerged as a significant challenge. Protected from view in their underground habitat, wireworms' presence may remain undetected until damaged potato tubers are uncovered at harvest time.
