International Conservation: AND LAND MANAGEMENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM

A little over five years ago, the Chicago Botanic Garden's (CBG) AJnstitxite for Plant Conservation, in collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), created a national intern program that has since expanded to include the National Park Service (NFS) and USDA Forest Service (FS).The main aim of the program was to recruit recent college graduates and provide them with career mentoring and hands-on conservation experience with one of these three federal agencies. Since its inception in 2002,we have successfully appointed over 200 interns, of which approximately 60 percent go on to work for various state or federal government agencies at the conclusion of their internships and many of the remaining go on to graduate school with a clearer sense of future goals.
