摘要

Fxperiential learning—isn't that what life is all about? For students who hope to have a successful career upon graduating, book knowledge is rarely enough. I find this to be especially true in horticulture, where a true education should encompass sound theories but also practice. Students should not only be given opportunities by their professors to 'get their hands dirty,' but also applicable experiences that back up the professors' lectures. This is why I'm so thankful I was taught in my undergraduate years by Stan Beikmann, a professor at Andrews University, who did just that. Stan teaches landscape design and plant identification courses, but is also president of a landscape design firm. Every theory he teaches can be supported by real-life know-how. It's a powerful way to learn. I hope you'll enjoy getting to know one of my favorite people. I want to thank Stan for his involvement, both in the past and currently, in my career development. I have valuable experiences behind me, exciting opportunities ahead of me, and I owe it largely to this great advisor and mentor.
