Intercropping in fruit orchards

During the early period of raising an orchard quite a big chunk of land remains unclutivated which can be profitably put to use through intercropping. Due to shrinkage of land for cultivation intercropping has come to play a great role in the economyof the state. Newly developed orchards with young fruit trees offer good scope for intercropping. Keeping the land uncultivated for a considerable period of time has its own inherent problems as it leads to week infestation and soil erosion. Moreover, uncultivated land is highly uneconomical. During the early period of raising an orchard quite a big chunk of land remains unclutivated which can be profitably put to use through intercropping. The golden principal which should be meticulously followed while intercropping in an orchard is that, due consideration and priority should, be given to permanent plants and no intercropping.
