Making consumers aware of menaces of adulterated food is not enough. For effective containment of food adulteration consumers should equip themselves with some inklings on how to detect food adulterants using chemicals at hand. Food has all along been a touchy subject to its consumers. But, as it appears, while consumers are becoming more and more conscious of the quality of their food, food manufacturers as well as traders, out of their profiteering motives, are adulterating food articles in novelways to overshadow such consciousness. A food article is declared adulterated if its quality is lowered or adversely affected by addition of any health hazard-or even innocuous substances to it, or by abstraction of nutritious substances therefrom, or if the article of food is not of nature, substance or quality which it purported or represented to be irrespective of the fact that substance (adulterant) mixed is more nutritious and not injurious for health. In short, to a consumer, important parametersfor quality judgement of food are wholesomeness, safety, and consumers preference. Wholesomeness, food should be nutritious as well as pleasure to consumers; Safety - food should not cause any ill effects instantaneously or gradually; Preference-consumer always prefers food having his money worthiness.
