Punjab has extremes of low temperature during winters and high temperature during summers, that result in availability of vegetables like cucurbits, capsicum, tomato etc. for a short span. This situation suggests us to modify microclimate, which willincrease the availability span of vegetables besides increasing their yield.Low tunnel is one of the popular techniques used by vegetable growers for getting early production of summer season vegetable crops. In this technique, low tunnels are generally made of flexible transparent materials and are used to enclose one or more rows of plants in order to promote the crop growth by warming the air around the plants during winter season. This low cost technology is suitable for early cultivation of summer vegetables. It can protect the plants from cold injury and advance the cropby about one month than the normal season. In addition, low tunnels can be used for producing healthy nurseries of brinjal, chilli, capsicum and tomato during winters.
