WITH increasing population, demand for food is increasing in many folds but area under crops is not increasing accordingly. However an intensive cultivation and high yielding varieties are the solution to cope with the increasing demand for food. Theuse of bio fertilizers, green manure and farmyard manure is decreasing resulting in deficiency of organic matter and nutrients in soil. On the basis of average yield of Punjab. We are removing more than 400 kg of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potash per hectare annually. On the otherside fertilizer prices are increasing every year resulting increase of cost of production per unit area. The only alternative lift to save money is to use fertilizers in right amount, at rjght time and by right method.
