Rabi crops : seed treatment for pest and disease control

The concept of seed treatment involves the application of biological and chemical agent's that control and contain primary seed- and soil-borne infestation of insects and pathogens which pose devastating consequence to crop production'. Seed treatment protects the crop from sowing and keep on doing so through germination and early stages of the crop, which in turn leads to reduction in the amount of chemicals required for controlling the pest or pathogen at later stages. Rabi crops like wheat, winter maize and pulses are attacked by different seed- and soil-borne insect pests and diseases during different growth stages, reducing their germination and hence great loss to crop and its yield. Seed treatment method and various chemical treatments in important rabi crops against insect pests and diseases is discussed below.
