Planning of farm buildings for better efficiency

Farmstead, if properly planned provides better living conditions to the farmer and his family. There are certain principles which must be taken into consideration for planning buildings at farms. In the recent years the farming has progressed tremendously and consequently farmers are desiring better facilities on the farms. Very often farmers start construction of many structures on the farm in a haphazard manner. Due to lack of planning they do not know so that excessive cost is incurred on the construction of such buildings/structures. Concept of farmstead is of recent origin in Punjab though it was followed in foreign countries since long. It is that area on the farm where all the facilities like house, storage, tubewell, biogas plant, servantquarters and certain other structures like dairy and poultry etc are situated. Farmstead, if properly planned provides better living conditions to the farmers and his family. Each farm differs from other in its combination of activities. Each farm also presents a special problem of building, location and arrangements of structures, yards, lanes, fences etc. depending upon its requirements. There are certain principles which must be taken into consideration for planning of such structures.
