Dairy farming in Israel: an eye opener

Israel is a small west Asian country with an area of 21000 sq km i.e. only 40 percent of the size of Punjab. It is surrounded by Libnan, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. On one side it touches Mediterranean sea and on the other sides Dead Sea and Red Sea. The world famous Suez canal also runs very close to it. Israel is also called gateway to Africa, Asia and Europe. There are many similarities between Punjab and Israel's climatic conditions with few but very important exceptions. In this article we will discuss only the background, dairy farming systems and some facts and figures. Later on they will be compared with Punjab situation for the benefit of Punjabi dairy farmer. Climate in Israel is variable of type i.e. ambient temperature varies from 5-42 deg C in different parts of the country. Annual rainfall is approximately 550 mm that too only in the winter months of November and December. Total human population is 6 million and the inhabitants are mainly Jews. Their national language is Hebrew and Currency is shekel. Inspite of limiting factors like land, water and many others, Israel is a leading country on many fronts and dairy farming is one of them.
