FYM : a precious organic manure

In Punjab, a large amount of animal dung is still used as household fuel by making 'cow dung cakes'. Animal dung and urine can be used to prepare FYM and also in biogas plants to produce biogas for cooking. The slurry goes in to fields as manure for crops. COMBINATION of high yielding varieties of rice and wheat with chemical fertilizers, insecticides and weedicides resulted in the green revolution in the country. But Punjab has had to pay a price of this: degradation of health of natural resources,soil, water and air.
