The climatic conditions and flora of Punjab are suitable for the adoption of beekeeping on commercial lines. Beekeeping also requires comparatively lower investment coupled with immediate and commensurate returns. Honeybees and honey have been knownin India from the time immemorial. Beekeeping is the art of keeping bees for the purpose of obtaining honey, a food of high nutritive and medicinal value and waxes used in the preparation of cosmetics, boot polishes and water proof paints. The climatic,conditions and flora of Punjab are suitable for the adoption of beekeeping on commercial lines. Beekeeping is suitable for people in all walks of life for example; farm labour, small and marginal farmers, etc. The State and the Central governments are providing financial help to the prospective beekeepers for the adoption of this enterprise as a subsidiary occupation.
