Courage and character, leaders and legends: An interview with Howard Nathan

When I first approached Howard about an interview he was quick to tell me that he was not really a first-generation transplant coordinator. He explained that Ron Dreffer, Herb Teachy, Mike Phillips, and Don Denny were the first-generation coordinators. But I wanted to interview Howard because of the impact he has made and continues to make in transplantation and organ donation. This was the first interview I conducted via Skype. Howard looked relaxed in his home office in suburban Philadelphia and I was in my home office in the Washington, DC, suburbs.
