Occurrence of western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera Le Conte) in the south-western part of Poland.

Western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera LeConte) insects were found in the southwestern part of Poland in 2006. Within the framework of the monitoring carried out in 2007-2008 by the Plant Protection Institute - National Research Institute, Sosnicowice Branch, selected corn fields of the Silesia Province sticky traps, fitted with pheromone and food bait dispensers were disposed. Both in 2007 and 2008, the highest number of beetles was recorded in the third decade of August. The total number of insects caught in 2007 was 79. One year later 551 insects in used traps were observed. In the Raciborz county, the average number of insects per one pheromone trap increased tenfold in contrast to the previous growing season.
