Occurrence and harmfulness of pea moth (Laspeyresia nigricana Steph.) on pea.

Field experiments were conducted in Poland, in 2006 and 2007, to determine the effectiveness of chemical control of pea moth (Laspeyresia nigricana [Cydia nigricana]) in pea cv. Ramrod. The percentage of damaged pods by pea moth larva was calculated by the analysis of a series of 100 consecutive pods collected from each field plot. In the first year of research, 22.2% of pods were damaged by the pea moth larva. The applied insecticides were very effective in the control and the percentage of their efficacy ranged from 74.4-95.5% with simultaneous increase of grain yield by 3.8-9.2%. In 2007, the damage of pods caused by the pest amounted to 35.2%. The effectiveness of the tested insecticides was also very high and ranged from 55.4 to 81.6%. The percentage increase of pea grain yield was 3.9% on average.
