The possibility of the early detection of granary weevil (S. granarius) infestation of cereal grains using immune serum obtained the against alpha -amylase of these insect was determined. Antibodies present in the immune serum B responded to S. granarius adults extract only. On the other hand, immune serum A showed immunoreactivity in relation to S. granarius adults and larvae as well as adults of Tribolium confusum. In both cases, any interactions between antibodies and extracts from wheat, rye, triticale and oat flakes were observed. The results suggest the possible application of antibodies developed against S. granarius alpha -amylase in the early detection of granary weevil infestation in cereals..
