Influence of herbicides on grain technological quality of maize.

The studies on reaction of maize cultivars to postemergence herbicides: Callisto 100 SC, Mustang 306 SE and Maister OD were caried out in the Lower Silesia region in 2005-2007. The trial design was split-block with 3 replications. Herbicides were applied at the growth stage 3-4 leaves of maize cultivars. Decolorization of leaves, wrinkles, chlorosis and plants deformation were observed on cvs: Tripoli, Monumental, Sastra, Claudia, Gazelle, PR 39H32. In spite of lack phytotoxicity reaction of the herbicide Maister OD on maize cultivars the results of, laboratory tests of qualitative parameters of grain of cultivar PR 39H32 showed a lower content of starch and fat. Typical symptoms for herbicide Callisto 100 SC such as leaf whitening did not effect cultivar yielding and grain parameters. The results showed a lower starch content in case of susceptible cultivar. Moreover, in grain of cv. PR 39H32 treated with herbicide Mustang 306 SE the level of dry mass, MTZ, protein, fat, starch and fibre was decreased comparing to the control objects. No morphological and qualitative changes were detected in case of tolerant cultivars: Tripoli, Monumental and sastra regardless of applied herbicide.
