Current problems of sugar beet plants against turnip moth and heart and dart moth.

A field experiment was conducted in Poland, in 2007-08, to determine the optimal date for chemical control of cutworms (Agrotis segetum and A. exclamationis) based on 2 methods and 9 chemical treatment dates on sugarbeet. The first method was in accordance with the flight moth warning system. The second one was based on a phonological criterion including the appointed sum of effective temperatures for the pest. The yield of roots was evaluated from a 10 m2 area. The results revealed a lack of significant differences between the applied treatment date combinations and controls. The smallest percentage of pest infested roots was recorded in the case of experimental combinations with the phonological criterion, while the largest one in control. All insecticides applied in this experiment were of minor importance.
