In an experiment conducted in Poland, the genetic diversity in terms of plant health of early maize hybrids as a result of various fertilization methods was shown in the case of frit fly (Oscinella frit) only in 2005, European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis) in the years 2005 and 2007, and fusariosis (Fusarium) and common smut (Ustilago maydis) in all years of disease occurrence. In 2005, starter fertilization significantly reduced the number of plants damaged by frit fly on the hybrid Brda, in relation to broadcast fertilization. The positive reaction, that was reduction of the plants' percentage damaged caused by European corn borer as a result of starter fertilization, was shown by the hybrids KB 1902 in 2005 and Sunday in 2007. Both hybrids Airbus and Brda gave the opposite reaction in 2005. Starter fertilization decreased the number of infected plants by fusariosis only on the hybrid PR 38G12 in 2007, while comparing to broadcast fertilization. The hybrids KB 1902 in 2005 as well as ES Ballade, Fuxxol and Baxxos in 2007 revealed different reaction. As a result of starter fertilization, the percentage of infected maize plants by common smut was reduced on the hybrid PR 38G12 in 2005, related to broadcast fertilization. In 2007, hybrid Baxxos showed the opposite reaction.
