RECYCLE AND SAVE WITH SURGE FLOW

Surge flow in furrow irrigation has contributed to water savings of 30 to 40 per cent, sometimes more, compared with continuous flow. Much of the understanding of the mechanisms involved has come from experiments with recirculating infiltrometers. The process has contributed to a decrease in soil permeability following completion of infiltration of ponded water after inflow has stopped.
