Further study of translational research for preventive medicine

The need for translational research to bring scientific findings arising from basic studies into practical applications is often discussed, but how should the basic findings in preventive medicine such as epidemiologi-cal, experimental animal, and in-vitro studies be translated into actual preventive practices to reduce cancer incidence and mortality? There is an exemplary episode in a recent publication of ours in Preventive Medicine (PM) (Sasazuki et al., 2012) from a population-based prospective study, the Japan Public Health Center-based Prospective Study (JPHC Study).
