The first deadlines for REACH authorisation applications arrive next year. Four phthalates, including the widely used DEHP, are among the 14 substances already on the authorisation list, and firms must submit their applications by August 2013. The target set by Europe’s industry and environment commissioners, Antonio Tajani and Janez Potocnik, to get 136 substances of very high concern (SVHCs) on the candidate list of substances proposed for authorisation by the end of 2012 is within reach. There is a political goal to identify all relevant SVHCs by 2020.
