Crystallizable Copolyamides as obtained by Reactive Melt-mixing of Polyamide 46/Polyamide 61 blends: Crystallization and Melting Behaviour

It is known that melt-mixing of polyamides results in interchange reaiv i1! between the blend components 'I|21. As it is very difficult to prevent these exchange reactions in the melt, there is. interest in the understanding of the irw change reactions as they occur for example during melt-extrusion and ir ction moulding of polyamide blends. Possible transaction processes which i.light occur during melt-processing are represented in Figure 1.Ihe present work is devoted to the study of the blending process of pdya- i'e 46 (PA 46) and polyamide 61 (PA 61), PA 46 is a semi-crystalline aliph.i'1, polyamide and PA 61 is an amorphous aromatic polyamide. The main objective of this paper is to study, the effect of the trar.sa 'ndation processes on the crystallization and melting behaviour of the PA' I'A ?1 blend. Besides the influence of processing conditions such as aaru>. n temperature and extrusion time, the influence of the blend com; :ion on the thermal behaviour will also be investigated.
