In recent years, our group has demonstrated the use of hyperbranched fluoropolymer-poly(ethylene glycol) crosslinked polymer networks as coatings that inhibit the adhesion or settlement of marine organisms. The hydropliobic hyperbranched fluoropolymer and hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) diamine components phase segregate upon casting on a surface. A halting of the full phase segregation of these two components via crosslinking of the terminal amines of the PEG component and the labile para fluorines on the hyperbranched fluoropolymer results in the formation of complex surfaces and morphologies.
