The development of new materials with useful properties has played a key role in the field of molecular electronics. In particular, plastic and organic materials have recently attracted considerable attention. These materials have been used to produce electronic devices (e.g., flexible flat-panel displays) that are not possible with current materials. Further advantages offered by plastic and organic materials results from their light weight and low cost.
