LOW TEMPERATURE, LOW PRESSURE HYDROTREATING OF 2-METHYL-1- PENTENOL ON SUPPORTED METAL CATALYSTS

Supported metal catalysts, including Pt, Pd and Cu on HiSil 210, have been studied for the deoxygenation of 2-methyl-2-pentenal at 200oC and atmospheric pressure. While Pt and Pd do decarbonylation of 2-methyl-2-pentenal giving CO and C5 hydrocarbons, Cu does hydrogenolysis givng H2O and C6 hydrocarbons. Other products include 2-methyl-pentanal, 2-methyl-1-pentenol, and 2-methyl-pentanol. The overall activity follows order Pt>Pd>Cu for the same amount of metal loading.
