Making the most of our time

ONE evening just a few weeks ago, I found myself sitting across the table from two farmers. One had just helped pack his daughter's car and watched her head back to college. The other was set to move his daughter to college the next day.They were a sad pair. Neither shed any tears that night, but you got the feeling they were fairly close to the surface. Watching them commiserate was, in a word, depressing — but sweetly so.
