SOON it may be possible to go from cradle to grave with corn. Promessa Organic, a Swedish company, is promoting "environmentally friendly burials." The firm has applied for patents in 35 countries to freeze-dry corpses with liquid nitrogen, shatter the remains with sonic vibrations, remove the water and metal (artificial joints, dental fillings, etc.) with vacuums and metal separators, and place the remaining white powder in biodegradable caskets made from corn or potato starch.
