THIS year promises to be a challenging one for tax planning. Many producers sold their 2008 crop of grain in early 2009 for an excellent price. Livestock producers could actually be seeking additional income because the entire livestock sector has experienced poor prices during the past 12 months. Fertilizer and other input prices were substantially higher for 2009 crops than in previous years, and many producers were forced to buy inputs in 2008 to guarantee supply.
