Prices for OCC imports in China see an uptick in lead-up to Lunar New Year

Mills’ continuing restocking and disrupted supply from the USA due to harsh weather there drove up prices for some imported US recovered paper (RCP) grades in China before the Chinese market closed down to celebrate the Lunar New Year on January 31. RCP purchasing ground to a halt one week before the Lunar New Year and is expected to stay quiet until mid-February, after mill workers return to their posts. “We kept minimum RCP inventories most of the time last year to deal with poor packaging business, and now have to get volumes constantly to replenish depleted stocks,” said a major Chinese recycled containerboard producer.
