By now, the electricity crisis in California will have reminded anyone passively interested in the problem that the availability of cheap and reliable electricity is critical to the sustained economic growth and security of the US. Even participants in the global-warming debate have not fully explored the national security or economic impacts of the draconian reductions required under Kyoto, or the relatively minor contributions those reductions might make to the problem-assuming the problem actually exists.
